Personal counseling mission statement: As professional school counselor, I will conduct my comprehensive school counseling program in a manner that engages all students in classroom, individual, and group activities which support their right to an education that promotes their dignity, diversity, and development. The program will be data-driven in an effort to clearly define student strengths and weaknesses in order to better meet student needs.
OUR PROGRAM PURPOSE Celeste High School offers a comprehensive guidance counseling program whose purpose is to promote and enhance the learning process. The comprehensive school counseling program will support the mission of Celeste High School and will be led by professional school counselors with the support of administrators, staff, parents and community members to focus on academic success, college/career information, and personal/social development. This program includes individual assistance in a proactive manner in response to students' needs. In addition, the program provides wide-ranging information and advice on future decisions including college admissions, financial aid, and career opportunities. CHS's counseling program is based on the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. The use of the Texas Model helps to make sure that a school’s comprehensive school counseling program will be effective for all students in support of the mission of Celeste ISD.
PHILOSOPHY OF COUNSELING Human nature gives each person the innate desire to be accepted as part of a group. A school counselor must strive to help all students feel accepted, an integral part of the group. School is an especially difficult time for students because of the biological and emotional changes taking place within them. As students mature, they must also develop mature coping skills to face the world around them. All students will need the help of a school counselor at some point, and this means it is the responsibility of the counselor to be as knowledgeable as possible about the incredibly diverse student population. The counselor is better able to serve all students after receiving training to work with special populations of students, including but not limited to ESL, special education, and gifted populations. Students of every race, creed, gender, and ability must be served with the same level of professionalism. All students deserve to be helped, and no issue is too small or too great to be addressed by the professional school counselor.
